3-20-2008

198 this morning down 1 lb from yesterday. I've been on a see-saw with my weight these last few months. Largely jumping from 196-204. For instance yesterday I was 199 and the day before 197... Add to that the fact that I think our scale at home is a bit on the not so reliable side and I take it with a grain of salt. Fact is I think I stay more focused on how many holes I get to pass over on my belt. 1 is a fat day and 2 is pretty good. When I see 3 I'll know I've made some significant progress.

I've started drinking coffee in the morning. Mostly cold, with probably way too much sugar. The upside is that I get to work ready to roll instead of coming in and sluggishly start working. It pushes my need to eat food back a bit which makes my food last more of the day and keeps me from being ravenous when I get home. Then adding a cup after dinner seems to keep me from crashing at 7 pm in a chair. I think I've accomplished more this week than I have in a good long time. The down side is that I don't really feel tired enough to go to bed till well after midnight, though when I do go to bed I seem to go to sleep a lot faster.

I haven't fasted in almost a month. I'm going to have to do that Monday. The real good health news I received of late was:

My Cholesterol is down! I think it's due to two things. Fasting and the fact that I discovered that canned soup veggies largely don't taste like veggies. I'm not a veggie fan, but I'm trying to make the best choices and changes I can in my life. If not for myself then to provide a better example for my son.

212 last night, 207 this morning...

Fasted yesterday for about 20 hours then ate about half my calories for the day...

Aside from that I managed to stay mostly near my goals w/ the exception of my brother's birthday, where his wife decided that homemade cake was likely to be cheaper, of course it wasn't nor was it cheaper from a caloric perspective. It was about two or three times the calories and that saturated fat was mostly off the charts.

210 finally the right direction.

I dredged up the goals the cardiologist gave me a few years ago when I went in weighing 204, I figured 6 lbs were not likely to have changed the recommendations much, and jumped back on the counting wagon.

So the goals are:
Calories <= 1650
Saturated Fat <= 12 grams
Cholesterol <= 300 milligrams

In addition I tacked on a no trans fat goal for myself.

I dumped all of this into a Google doc that I'm using to track the numbers. Here's how I faired yesterday:

Woke up to 212 woo....
Breakfast:
Had the Hy-Vee knock off cereal for 170 calories
Lunch:
A PBJ for about 410 calories
Snacks:
peanuts and raisins
Dinner:
ramen w/ garlic and hot sauce and an apple

Just overall feeling like I need to do something about my weight and overall health just can't seem to get enough sleep to get up to exercise and I don't want to do it late at night because the energy rush of exercise is enough to keep me up for a couple hours.
